This e-learning course is intended to introduce botulinum toxin by providing a brief history of botulinum Toxin, describing the age-related changes that can be impacted by appropriate use of botulinum toxin, the molecular structure, mechanism and mode of action of Botulinum Toxins as well as the basic biochemistry and pharmacology. The course will also introduce the most common botulinum toxins brands in use today.
To provide the learner an introduction to Botulinum Toxin.
By the end of the course, the student should be able to:
Provide a brief history of Botulinum Toxin
Describe the molecular structure of Botulinum Toxins and explain the mode of action
Explain the mechanism of action of Botulinum Toxin including their effects at neuromuscular junction and acetylcholine blockade
Describe the uses of Botulinum Toxin
Be aware of the different Botulinum Toxin brands used in the UK and internationally
Describe the biochemistry and pharmacology (i.e. dilution, diffusion, onset and duration of action, metabolism, toxicity) of Botulinum Toxin
